University of South Carolina Breaks Ground on School of Journalism
The University of South Carolina broke ground in February of 2014 on the new home for the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies in Columbia, S.C. Designed by the Boudreaux Group, the $25 million project includes renovation of the former Health Sciences building to create a 55,000-sf facility providing classrooms, faculty offices, computer labs, a broadcasting room, an audiovisual suite, a multimedia lab, a greenhouse studio, an auditorium, and administrative space.
DOE Plans Energy Researh Facility at Pacific Northwest National Lab
The Department of Energy will begin construction in April of 2014 on a $10 million research facility at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Wash. The project will be designed and built by DGR Grant Construction in collaboration with Meier Architecture & Engineering. The 22,000-sf facility will provide labs, computational space, and offices to support research on power grid dynamics and renewable energy technologies, as well as housing PNNL's Building Operations Control Center and sustainability program.
Nevada State College Breaks Ground on Nursing & Sciences Building
Nevada State College broke ground in January of 2014 on the $32 million Nursing & Sciences Building in Las Vegas. Designed by PGAL, the 66,000-sf facility will provide advanced science labs, classrooms, faculty offices, an auditorium, and computer labs. The construction manager for the project is Ledcor. Completion is expected in August of 2015.
Onset Announces New Data Logger for Building Performance Monitoring
Onset announced the release of a new high-performance data logger for building performance monitoring applications in January of 2014. The HOBO UX120-006M Analog Logger provides twice the accuracy of previous models, a deployment-friendly LCD, and support for up to four external sensors for measuring temperature, current, CO2, voltage, and more. This enables energy engineers, facility managers, and others to easily solve a range of building performance applications, including energy audits, building commissioning studies, and equipment scheduling optimization.
University of Tennessee Knoxville Initiates Science Facility Renovation
The University of Tennessee has begun renovating Sophronia Strong Hall to create an advanced science laboratory facility. The completed nine-story, 268,000-sf building will house the departments of anthropology and earth and planetary sciences, as well as providing instructional space and open, flexible labs for the departments of biology and chemistry. The $114 million project is expected to reach completion in early 2016. LEED Silver sustainable design will be sought for the renovated facility.
