Oregon Health & Science University Builds Inpatient Addition

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is constructing a 513,000-sf addition to its existing hospital on the Marquam Hill campus in Portland. Designed by NBBJ to enhance the patient experience, the 14-story tower will offer 128 new inpatient beds to meet a pressing need for healthcare capacity in Oregon since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Inpatient Addition (IPA) will predominantly provide surgical oncology and cellular therapy services, and will connect to the main hospital and the Kohler Pavilion via three sky bridges.

University of South Carolina Plans School of Medicine

The University of South Carolina is planning to begin construction in 2025 on the School of Medicine Columbia. Serving as the centerpiece of a $300 million campus, the 300,000-sf facility will feature active learning classrooms, extensive medical simulation spaces, interdisciplinary laboratories, and a health science library. An adjoining biomedical research wing will advance the creation of novel therapies and treatments, with a central landscaped courtyard offering settings for informal exchange.

Massachusetts General Hospital Builds Herb Chambers Tower for Integrated Cancer Care

Massachusetts General Hospital is constructing the Herb Chambers Tower in Boston to meet a growing demand for world-class cancer services. Collocating inpatient and outpatient environments, the nearly 1 million-sf building will enable patients to receive the continuum of their care under one roof. Clinical teams will work in dynamic collaboration to optimize medical outcomes and further life-saving research utilizing the latest tools and instrumentation.

Mount Sinai Opens Center for Artificial Intelligence and Human Health

Mount Sinai Health System opened the $100 million Hamilton and Amabel James Center for Artificial Intelligence and Human Health in November of 2024 in New York. Designed by HOK, the project involved the transformation of a former nursing residence into a 65,000-sf research hub for computational discovery. The 12-story structure will initially house approximately 40 principal investigators, alongside 250 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, computer scientists, and staff.

Children's Health and UT Southwestern Break Ground on Dallas Pediatric Campus

Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center broke ground in October of 2024 on a $5 billion pediatric health campus in Dallas. Designed by Perkins&Will, HKS, and GSR Andrade Architects, the project will encompass more than 4.7 million sf of construction, including a new hospital as its centerpiece. The 552-bed structure will significantly expand inpatient, surgical, and ambulatory capacity with two 12-story towers and one eight-story tower.
