University of Iowa Health Care opened the North Liberty campus in April of 2025 to improve patient access to world-class care and advance medical research and education. Designed by Neumann Monson Architects to offer a full range of musculoskeletal services, the 469,050-sf development accommodates the UI Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation and UI Sports Medicine. In one three-story wing, a 30,000-sf hospital provides 36 inpatient beds, 12 operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and an emergency department with a Level IV trauma center. The second wing, a five-level, 169,000-sf medical building, houses faculty offices, education and research space, and an 84-room outpatient clinic on the upper two floors.
Advanced diagnostic imaging technologies are accompanied by phlebotomy and clinical lab services. Patient flow within the structure has been optimized to create a seamless experience with comprehensive treatment and follow-up care. Physical therapy is enhanced by indoor and outdoor venues for rehabilitation, as well as a walk-in clinic for acute orthopedic injuries.
JE Dunn Construction was the construction manager at risk for the approximately $525 million project, which is sited on 60 acres. IMEG provided MEP engineering and construction administration services. Ground was broken on the facility in October of 2021.
