U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Health Constructs Replacement Medical Facility

The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Health and the Office of Disaster Recovery are constructing the Donna M. Christian Christensen MD Health Center to revitalize public medical infrastructure in Saint Croix. Flad Architects and Taller Larjas designed the 117,000-sf facility, which will support primary care, laboratory services, emergency medical care, dentistry, and environmental health, as well as behavioral health and services for women, infants, and children.

Sutter Health Breaks Ground on Advanced Cancer Center and Care Complex in Modesto

Sutter Health broke ground in January of 2026 on the Advanced Cancer Center and Care Complex in Modesto, Calif. Designed by HGA, the approximately $380 million project is part of a strategic multiyear commitment to increase the availability of innovative, high-quality services in the Central Valley. The four-story, 165,000-sf facility is being created in collaboration with Gould Medical Group and will offer both outpatient and specialty care in a single integrated location on the Memorial Medical Center campus.

Oschner Health Plans Vibrant Destination for Sports Medicine

Oschner Health is planning to break ground in late 2025 on a comprehensive hub for health and wellness in Jefferson Parish. Designed by WHLC Architecture, the 46,000-sf complex will be anchored by personalized orthopedics and sports medicine care, as well as offering pediatric specialties, women’s services, physical therapy, and imaging and lab functionalities. A subsequent phase of construction may add outpatient surgical capabilities and expanded clinical services.

Stanford Health Care Begins Construction on Redwood City Outpatient Building

Stanford Health Care began construction on a new outpatient building in Redwood City in May of 2025. Designed by ZGF Architects and WRNS Studio, the state-of-the-art center will provide patients with expanded access to specialized, technology-enabled care where they live, work, and play. Standing nine stories high with a basement level, the 227,700-sf structure will feature a highly adaptable interior that can easily transform to accommodate changing needs.

UI Health Care Opens North Liberty Campus

University of Iowa Health Care opened the North Liberty campus in April of 2025 to improve patient access to world-class care and advance medical research and education. Designed by Neumann Monson Architects to offer a full range of musculoskeletal services, the 469,050-sf development accommodates the UI Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation and UI Sports Medicine. In one three-story wing, a 30,000-sf hospital provides 36 inpatient beds, 12 operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and an emergency department with a Level IV trauma center.

Kaiser Permanente Breaks Ground on Railyards Medical Center

Kaiser Permanente broke ground on the Railyards Medical Center in March of 2025 in Sacramento, Calif. Designed by SmithGroup, the 18-acre greenfield campus will act as a beacon for health and wellness that integrates premier amenities with the latest technologies. An eight-story, 662,000-sf hospital will anchor the complex and offer 310 beds, with 48 for intensive care. The structure will also provide 14 operating rooms, 70 emergency treatment bays, and a 38-bed birthing center with an eight-bed neonatal intensive care unit.
