Commonwealth Medical College Dedicates Science Building
Commonwealth Medical College dedicated the $115 million Medical Science Building in October of 2011. Located in Scranton, Pa., the four-story, 183,000-sf facility comprises two wings, one housing research space and the other for academic instruction. The building features 35 medical research labs, 24 small-group teaching rooms, a 250-seat auditorium, lecture halls, simulation suites for medical training, and a gross anatomy lab with 21 air changes per hour. Construction began on the project in February of 2009.
Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative Builds Waco Facility
The Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) is building a $32 million facility in Waco, Texas. Fostering collaboration between academia and industry partners, the 300,000-sf project will support commercialization of research discoveries and workforce development. BRIC was created by Baylor University, Texas State Technical College, the City of Waco, and other partners.
Emerson Process Management Builds R&D Facility
Emerson Process Management will build a $25 million headquarters and R&D facility for its Regulator Technologies Division in McKinney, Texas. Construction will begin in early 2012 on the three-story, 132,000-sf building with completion expected by year-end 2013. The sustainably designed facility will be developed by Matthews Southwest.
Gehry Technology Creates Strategic Alliance to Transform Building Industry
Gehry Technologies announced in October of 2011 that co-founder and chairman, Frank Gehry, has brought together many leading architects and designers to form a strategic alliance to transform the building industry and the practice of design. The alliance intends to enable new approaches to design through technology, to create more effective industry processes and a higher quality built environment. By applying and innovating new technology solutions to old problems such as waste, delay, and miscommunication, the alliance aims to lead industry process change.
University of British Columbia Builds Centre for Brain Health
The University of British Columbia broke ground on the $68.8 million Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health in October of 2011. Located at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, the six-story translational facility will support advanced neuroscience research, teaching, and clinical care. The center will include a collaboration atrium called the Synapse Garden and a repository for DNA and brain tissue. The Centre for Brain Health is being created in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.
