The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is building the $76.4 million Clinical and Translational Science Building in Rochester, N.Y. The 200,000-sf project broke ground in October of 2008 with occupancy expected in May of 2011. The interdisciplinary facility will house labs, offices, and classrooms for biomedical research and teaching. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.

Wyoming Medical Center is engaged in a $35 million expansion in Casper. The 97,000-sf project includes construction of a four-story patient tower and a new emergency department. The facility will provide up to 40 private patient rooms, a lobby, and a kitchen.

Smyth Community Hospital is building a 150,373-sf replacement facility in Marion, Va. The hospital will provide 48 acute care inpatient beds, an emergency department, surgical suites, and outpatient care. Occupancy is expected in June of 2012. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility. The hospital was designed by Earl Swensson Associates and built by Skanska USA Building.

Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center will invest $85 million to build new healthcare facilities in Davie County, N.C. A three-story, 90,000-sf outpatient center will provide emergency care, diagnostic imaging, endoscopy services, and outpatient surgery. The $60 million facility is slated for completion in late 2013. A $25 million, 25-bed hospital is expected to reach completion in 2017.

The University of Iowa will begin construction in late 2012 on the new $271 million Children’s Hospital in Iowa City. Consolidating pediatric medical care in a single location, the eight-story facility will include a 195-bed tower featuring larger patient rooms, play areas, and a children’s theater. Completion is expected in early 2015. The project is a part of a 10-year, $1.1 billion expansion plan.
