Kennesaw State University Breaks Ground on Science Facility

Kennesaw State University broke ground on a $21 million facility for the College of Science and Mathematics in March of 2011. Located in Kennesaw, Ga., the 73,000-sf facility will house science teaching labs, instructional space, and research labs for faculty and students.

Surrey Memorial Hospital Initiates Expansion

Construction began in January of 2011 on a $512 million renovation and expansion of Surrey Memorial Hospital in Surrey, B.C. The project includes construction of an eight-story critical care tower and a new emergency department. The construction manager is EllisDon. Completion is expected in 2014.

Boise State University's Environmental Research Building Nears Completion

Boise State University will open the $25 million Environmental Research Building in summer of 2011. Designed by RBB of Los Angeles, the 98,000-sf project will house classrooms and labs for the departments of Geosciences, Civil Engineering, and Public Policy, Administration, and Political Science. Construction began on the facility in spring of 2009.

Algonquin College Plans Student Commons

Algonquin College will break ground in April of 2011 on the $52 million Student Commons in Ottawa. The 110,000-sf facility will provide a signature space for social interaction, study, and collaboration. The project will include a large atrium, a 700-seat auditorium, and space for student services and groups. Occupancy is expected in September of 2012. LEED Platinum sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.

Hankook Builds R&D Center

Hankook Tire will construct a 710,424-sf research and development center in Daejeon, Korea. Completion is expected in 2013. Hankook's existing R&D facility will be used for production technology testing.
