LHP Partners with Seton on Harker Heights Medical Center

LHP Hospital Group is partnering with the Seton Family of Hospitals to build the $100 million Seton Medical Center Harker Heights in Bell County, Texas. Groundbreaking is expected in early 2011 with completion slated for late 2012. The 180,400-sf, 83-bed hospital will provide emergency care, women’s services, obstetrics, cardiology, surgery, oncology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, imaging and diagnostic services, and intensive and critical care. A 60,000-sf medical office building will also be built at the site.

Architectural Firm Billings Rose in November 2010

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) reported that revenue at U.S. architecture firms increased in November of 2010, only the second monthly increase in billings since early 2008. At 52.0, the AIA’s Architecture Billings Index (ABI) recorded a three point gain from the previous month, and reached its strongest level since December 2007. With ABI scores above the 50 level in two of the past three months, the prospects of a sustainable recovery in design activity are enhanced.

Novartis Plans St. Petersburg Manufacturing Plant

Novartis International AG will begin construction in 2011 on a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in St. Peterburg, Russia. The project is part of a five-year, $500 million investment by Novartis in local infrastructure, healthcare initiatives, and partnerships with academia and industry.

University of Vermont Renovates School of Natural Resources

The University of Vermont is renovating the George D. Aiken Center in Burlington. Housing the School of Natural Resources, the $13 million project features an insulated building envelope, natural lighting and ventilation, a green roof, a natural wastewater treatment system, and local building materials. LEED Platinum sustainable design certification will be sought for the 40,000-sf teaching and research facility. Construction began on the project in September of 2010 with occupancy expected in early 2011.
