Neste Opens Singapore Renewable Diesel Plant
Neste Oil opened a €550 million renewable diesel plant in Singapore in November of 2010. The facility has a capacity of 800,000 tons annually and is the largest of its kind worldwide. The plant produces NExBTL biological diesel from animal fats and palm oil. Neste Oil is headquartered in Finland.
Mölnlycke Health Care Plans Research and Manufacturing Facility
Mölnlycke Health Care will break ground in January of 2011 on a $37 million research and manufacturing facility in Brunswick, Maine. The 79,800-sf building will be located in the redeveloped Brunswick Naval Air Station and is slated for occupancy in December of 2011. The architect for the two-story project is Harriman Architects and Engineers of Auburn, Maine. The construction cost of the facility is $12 million with $25 million for advanced machinery and equipment. The building will accommodate 85 employees.
University of Macau Breaks Ground on Hengqin Campus
The University of Macau broke ground in November of 2010 on a 100,000-sm campus in Zhuhai, China. Located on Hengqin Island, the MOP 6 billion project includes construction of eight teaching towers and a seven-story library. Completion is expected in late 2012.
Pennsylvania State University Plans Biological Research Laboratory
Pennsylvania State University will begin construction in 2011 on the $23 million Biological Research Laboratory in University Park. Supporting research on immunology and infectious diseases, the 20,000-gsf ABSL-3 facility will include microbiology and virology labs, animal biocontainment suites, and an insectary. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the project. Completion is expected in summer 2012. The project is supported by $14.8 million in federal stimulus funding.
George Washington University Plans Translational Research Center
George Washington University will begin construction on the Neglected Diseases of Poverty translational research facility in summer of 2011. Located at George Washington Medical Center in Washington, D.C., the project includes renovation of 35,000 sf of existing space to house open laboratories and clinical space for the study of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and neglected infections of poverty (NIPs). The multidisciplinary project is supported by $15 million in federal stimulus funding.
