SolarReserve Builds Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project

Tonopah Solar Energy, a subsidiary of SolarReserve, will begin construction in mid-2011 on a $850 million solar power plant in Nye County, Nevada. Sited on 2,250 acres of public land, the 110 megawatt Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project will use fields of mirrors called heliostats to focus sunlight on a receiver tower, heating a transfer fluid used to generate steam. The facility will generate enough electricity to power 75,000 households. SolarReserve is based in Santa Monica, Calif.

University of California, San Francisco Builds Cardiovascular Research Building

The University of California, San Francisco is building the 230,000-sf Cardiovascular Research Building in San Francisco's Mission Bay development. Featuring integrated clinical and research space, the facility will house labs, offices, a 35,000-sf vivarium, and an outpatient clinic. The translational research building was designed by SmithGroup and Jim Jennings Architecture. Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) were implemented in the planning and development of the project.

Broughton Hospital Builds Morgantown Replacement Facility

Broughton Hospital will break ground in spring of 2011 on a $154 million replacement facility in Morgantown, N.C. The 382-bed, 430,000-sf psychiatric hospital is slated for completion in fall of 2013. The general contractor for the project is Rodgers Builders of Charlotte.

UGL Services Provides Green Facilities Services for Brevard College

UGL Services, a division of UGL Limited, was selected by Brevard College in December of 2010 to provide integrated facilities services. The renewable contract extends to June of 2015. The 35-person UGL Services staff provides custodial, housekeeping, landscaping and athletics field maintenance, and building operations and maintenance, as well as renovation and construction services for the 650-student campus that includes 38 buildings and covers 120 acres.

University of Texas at Arlington Completes Engineering Research Building

The University of Texas at Arlington completed the $126 million Engineering Research Building in December of 2010. The 234,000-gsf facility houses classrooms, research and teaching labs, a science and engineering library, collaboration space, faculty offices, and space for the departments of biomedical engineering and computer science. The project was designed by Page Southerland Page with RFD (Research Facilities Design) as laboratory design consultant.
