Princeton University Plans High-Performance Research Computing Center

Princeton University is planning to construct the 40,000-sf High-Performance Research Computing Center in Plainsboro, N.J.  Located on the Forrestal Campus, the two-story building will include a computing area, mechanical and electrical support, and office space. Occupancy is expected in 2011. The facility will house the Terrascale Infrastructure for Groundbreaking Research in Engineering and Science (TIGRESS).

Miami Dade College Opens Science Complex

Miami Dade College opened its $37 million science complex in January of 2010. Housing classrooms, administrative and facility offices, a greenhouse, a rooftop observatory deck, and a botanical garden, the facility features two laboratory floors for research and teaching in astronomy, biology, chemistry, and earth sciences. Ground was broken on the project in November of 2005 with construction beginning in May of 2006. The three-story, 73,384-sf facility is located on the school's North Campus in Miami.

University Of Maine Constructs Advanced Nanocomposites in Renewable Energy Lab

The University of Maine began construction in December of 2009 on the $17.4 million Advanced Nanocomposites in Renewable Energy Lab (ARNEL) in Orono, Maine. The 30,000-sf project is being built as an addition to the Advanced Structures and Composites Center and will support materials and engineering research to develop components for the deepwater offshore wind energy industry. The project was awarded $12.4 million in stimulus funding from the National Institute of Standards and Technology in January of 2010.

University of Guelph Constructs Animal Health Lab

The University of Guelph's Ontario Veterinary College is building the $70 million Pathobiology and Animal Health Laboratory in Guelph, Ontario. Designed by Young + Wright / IBI Group Architects, the four-story building is being built by Bird Construction Co. Completion is expected in August of 2010. The project will include a 120-seat lecture hall, a teaching lab, seminar rooms, research laboratories, and offices.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Plans Nanoscience Metrology Facility

The University of Nebraska – Lincoln will begin construction in 2010 on the $13.8 million Nanoscience Metrology Facility. Slated for completion in summer of 2011, the project was awarded $6.9 million in stimulus funding by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in January of 2010. The 32,000-sf facility will feature a temperature-stabilized, low-vibration environment with low electromagnetic fields.
