U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Health Constructs Replacement Medical Facility

The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Health and the Office of Disaster Recovery are constructing the Donna M. Christian Christensen MD Health Center to revitalize public medical infrastructure in Saint Croix. Flad Architects and Taller Larjas designed the 117,000-sf facility, which will support primary care, laboratory services, emergency medical care, dentistry, and environmental health, as well as behavioral health and services for women, infants, and children.

Lee Health’s Fort Myers Hospital Will Drive Medical Innovation

Lee Health is constructing a 535,000-sf acute care facility in Fort Myers to replace Lee Memorial. Representing an investment of approximately $434 million, the five-story structure was designed by Flad Architects to expand vital access to best-in-class treatment for the growing population of Southwest Florida. The 168-bed hospital will accommodate 42 emergency department beds, 10 operating rooms, and 236 patient rooms, empowered by integrated smart technology to optimize scheduling, clinical support, and personalized interventions.

LSU Health Shreveport Plans Research Expansion Project

LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS) is planning to begin construction in January of 2027 on the Research Expansion Project. Designed by Flad Architects in association with Prevot Design and Sutton Beebe Babin Architects, the strategic development will create a new hub for biomedical discovery through the adaptive reuse of an existing 181,000-sf mall. The first $90 million phase of renovation will transform 92,500 sf of space to house the Cancer and Cardiovascular Research Facility.

Construction Continues on UCLA Research Park

The University of California, Los Angeles is constructing the UCLA Research Park to create an engine of innovation and economic growth for Southern California and beyond. The visionary project is transforming the former Westside Pavilion shopping mall into a dynamic destination where basic scientists join with industry experts to advance discovery and commercialization. Acquired by UCLA in December of 2023, the property encompasses more than 1.3 million gsf on 9.2 acres, with two main buildings spanning a total of 700,000 sf connected by an enclosed pedestrian bridge.

Genentech Invests $2 Billion in Holly Springs Biomanufacturing Facility

Genentech, an independent subsidiary of Roche, is expanding the initial investment in its new biomanufacturing facility in Holly Springs, N.C., from $700 million to approximately $2 billion. Originally envisioned as a 700,000-sf complex, the project will now deliver increased production volume and scale capacity, significantly enhancing the company's U.S. supply chain.
