Loma Linda University Medical Center is partnering with Physicians Hospital of Murrieta to build a $211 million hospital complex in Murrieta, Calif. Construction began in November of 2008 on the 106-bed facility and two 120,000-sf medical office buildings. Occupancy is expected in March of 2011. The hospital will provide general, acute care, and specialty services including obstetrics, pediatrics, cardiovascular, and emergency.
Marshall Hospital is planning to construct an $81 million inpatient wing in Placerville, Calif. The 95-bed expansion will include a 17-bed maternity center and a 32-bed emergency department. The first phase of the project is slated for completion in fall of 2011.
Corry Memorial Hospital broke ground on a 73,323-sf replacement facility in November of 2010. Construction will begin on the $38 million critical access hospital in January of 2011 and occupancy is expected in June of 2012. Corry Memorial Hospital is located in Corry, Pa.
Athens Regional Medical Center dedicated the expanded Talmadge Tower II in November of 2010. The 226,523-sf project includes 175,801 sf of new construction and 50,722 sf of renovated space. The $69 million tower features expanded surgery facilities, additional inpatient beds, and cardiovascular, endoscopy, and laboratory services. Two other facilities, the Regional Health Services Building and Athens Regional Square, were also dedicated at the site.
Meritus Medical Center will open its $293 million replacement hospital in December of 2010. Located in Hagerstown, Md., the 510,000-sf facility features an integrated layout for ease of patient navigation. The hospital will house an emergency department, a trauma center, advanced surgical suites with ceiling-mounted equipment, and a birthing center. The facility features 267 single patient rooms and a 3T MRI instrument.
Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota celebrated the opening of its $230 million expansion in Minneapolis in November of 2010. The facility features entirely private patient rooms, an expanded emergency department, neonatal and pediatric ICUs, surgical suites, and a comprehensive cardiovascular care center. The project is part of a $300 million development that will include expansion of the existing St. Paul hospital, which is slated for completion in 2011.
The University of Oklahoma is constructing the $128 million Oklahoma Cancer Center in Norman. The seven-story, 210,000-sf facility will support translational research with laboratories, clinical space, and patient education suites. The multidisciplinary Oklahoma Cancer Center will provide advanced diagnosis and treatment facilities in a patient-centered environment. Completion is expected in 2011.
Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center will officially break ground on a 947,000-sf hospital on December 6, 2010. Construction will begin on the $534 million facility in April of 2011. Located in Fort Hood, Texas, the project includes a six-story hospital, three outpatient clinic buildings, and parking structures. Balfour Beatty McCarthy Joint Venture is providing design and construction services. Occupancy is expected in late summer of 2015. The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
University Hospitals completed construction in November of 2010 on the $298 million Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood, Ohio. The seven-story, 144-bed facility will open in early 2011. The 358,000-sf hospital features private patient rooms, a comprehensive imaging center, technology-rich surgical suites, catheterization labs, a helipad, and emergency care. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
Scripps Health will break ground in late 2011 on a $398 million cardiovascular institute in La Jolla. The 383,000-sf, eight-story facility will provide 108 private patient rooms, 60 ICU beds, six surgical suites, catheterization labs, cardiovascular research labs, and a center for graduate medical education. The design architect for the project is HOK. Completion is expected in 2015. The institute is part of a $2 billion master plan to rebuild Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
George Washington University will begin construction on the Neglected Diseases of Poverty translational research facility in summer of 2011. Located at George Washington Medical Center in Washington, D.C., the project includes renovation of 35,000 sf of existing space to house open laboratories and clinical space for the study of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and neglected infections of poverty (NIPs). The multidisciplinary project is supported by $15 million in federal stimulus funding.
Ascension Health opened the $267 million Middle Tennessee Medical Center in November of 2010. Located in Murfreesboro, the 561,000-sf replacement hospital provides 12 operating rooms, 11 labor and delivery suites, an intensive care unit, emergency, imaging, and a central energy plant. The 286-bed facility was designed by Gresham, Smith and Partners (GS&P) using evidence-based design principles and built by Turner Construction.
The University of South Alabama will begin construction in December of 2010 on a $45 million patient tower for the Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Mobile. The general contractor for the project is Doster Construction. The five-story, 200,000-sf facility will house inpatient rooms, eight surgical suites, two endoscopy rooms, a cafeteria, a parking garage, and support areas. Completion is expected in late 2012.
SUNY Upstate Medical University will break ground in early 2011 on a $74 million cancer center in Syracuse, N.Y. The five-story facility will provide 90,000 sf of clinical space on three floors with two floors to accommodate future expansion. Designed by EwingCole, the center will house three linear accelerator rooms and 27 private infusion areas. The construction cost of the facility is $50 million with $24 million for equipment and furnishings. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
Texas A&M University selected BOKA Powell in November of 2010 as the architect of record for a $26 million health science facility in Bryan. Ground was broken for the 130,000-sf project in mid-2010 with completion expected by August of 2011. The facility is being developed by Skanska HealthRealty and will combine clinical and medical education space within a simulated hospital.
