Stanford University School of Medicine has selected NBBJ of San Francisco to design the new $128-million Learning and Knowledge Center in Palo Alto, Calif. The project will be constructed on the site of the existing Fairchild Auditorium and will include renovations to the Lane and Always buildings. The 120,000-sf center will break ground in 2007 with completion expected in 2009.

Housing the Knowledge Management Center biomedical library and the Center for Immersive and Simulation-based Learning (a medical skills development facility with a fully equipped operating room, ER, and ICU and artificial patients) the building will also include classrooms, meeting rooms, and a 350-seat conference center/auditorium. NBBJ is also designing a master plan for further campus development that will include construction of four additional buildings for five medical institutes in the next ten to twenty years.
