Published 9/6/2006

Muhlenberg College occupied its new sustainably-designed science building in Allentown, Pa., in September of 2006. The ground floor of the facility houses Introductory Biology; the first floor, Organismal Biology; and the second floor, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience. The third floor houses Ecology and Environmental Science and will connect to the new Chemistry facility once the existing Shankweiler Hall 's renovation is complete in April 2007. The fourth floor of Shankweiler will house the Acopian Center for Ornithology, a greenhouse, animal research facilities, and a new lecture hall. The new science building will also house classrooms and research laboratories and was constructed with recycled materials and incorporates water, energy, and waste efficient technologies. A key feature of the facility are the "living room" areas that encourage interaction and collaboration.
