Grant MacEwan University Plans Centre for Arts and Communications

MacEwan University will begin construction in summer of 2014 on the $153 million Centre for Arts and Communications in downtown Edmonton, Alberta. Designed by Bing Thom Architects, the five-story building will provide two theaters, multimedia studios, classrooms, and galleries. The project team includes designer and consulting engineer Manasc Isaac Architects, civil engineer AECOM, structural engineer Fast + Epp, mechanical engineer Hemisphere Engineering, and electrical engineer Stantec Consulting. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility, which will feature advanced building systems and a curtain wall façade designed to optimize energy performance. Occupancy is expected in September of 2017.
