Published 5/6/2018

The University at Albany broke ground in April of 2018 on the $180 million Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex (ETEC) in Albany, N.Y. Designed by CannonDesign to foster collaboration with industry partners, the 245,000-sf facility will house UAlbany’s College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity; the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences; the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center; and the New York State Mesonet, the nation’s most advanced weather-detection system. The Small Business Development Center and the Office of Entrepreneurial and Commercialization Services will also be located in the complex, which will be strategically sited on the Harriman Campus near several government agencies. Accommodating four R&D centers, the flexible facility will include research labs, instrumentation suites, conference rooms, offices, classrooms, collaboration areas, an emergency preparedness situation room, and spaces for weather research, instruction, and observation. Ther project team includes construction manager Turner Construction and general contractor Consigli Construction. LEED Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for the project, which is slated for completion in July of 2021.
