Dow Chemical Company Renovates Electronics Materials Lab
Dow Chemical Company is renovating an existing facility in Marlborough to create a leading-edge analytical laboratory for its Electronics Materials division. Sited on Dow's existing 110-acre campus, the structure is being transformed by Erland Construction from an office environment to a sophisticated R&D center offering multifunctional fabrication suites. The facility will remain operational throughout the seven-month project, which includes installation of new mechanical systems below the sub-fab, on the basement level, and on the rooftop. Project challenges include the implementation of construction materials to meet the new fire rating requirements, as well as the installation of the supply, exhaust, and return ductwork into a ceiling originally designed for office usage. New infrastructure will provide nitrogen, argon, and specialty gases to the laboratories, and a humidifier and an energy recovery ventilator will support critical air quality parameters. The 8,226-sf renovation project is slated for completion in December of 2018.
