Cornell University broke ground in October of 2022 on a $100 million facility for the Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science in Ithaca, N.Y. Designed by Leers Weinzapfel Associates, the four-story, 133,000-sf structure will collocate the departments of computer science, information science, and statistics and data science in a single unified complex. The ground floor will accommodate maker and builder labs, large classrooms, an inviting commons, and a café, with the upper floors housing research labs, faculty and administrative offices, meeting rooms, and collaboration zones. An attached bridge will connect the L-shaped building to the existing Gates Hall, defining a landscaped green space where students, faculty, and staff can gather and interact. The sustainably designed facility will leverage high-performance infrastructure and building materials to achieve a substantial reduction in carbon emissions, energy consumption, and water usage. Completion is expected in spring of 2025.
