Related Midwest and CRG are planning to establish the $9 billion Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) in Chicago. Supported by $500 million in state funding, this dynamic nexus will enable the entire ecosystem of researchers, suppliers, end users, and partners to accelerate quantum innovation, scale-up, and commercialization. The strategic location on the former U.S. Steel South Works site will ensure optimal access to academic affiliates, local talent, and power and water infrastructure.

Designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative, the first 30-acre phase of IQMP will include a single-story, 30,000-sf structure with a modular layout for future flexibility. As anchor tenant, PsiQuantum’s operations will involve the creation of the world’s first commercially viable quantum computing system, and may eventually expand to three buildings in total. The 128-acre campus will also accommodate IBM’s New Quantum Algorithm Center, a hub for the exploration of quantum-centric supercomputing across industries. With leasable research and office spaces for private companies and universities, the development will also offer equipment labs and a cryogenic plant. All buildings will incorporate bird-safe technology, and the landscape design will feature native plantings, with swales and berms to corral stormwater.

The master plan also describes a $300 million medical facility for Advocate Health at the north end of the 400-acre site. The 53-bed hospital will offer diagnostic testing and imaging, dialysis, surgery, and emergency services, as well as a cardiac catheterization lab and an ICU.

Clayco is the general contractor for the first phase of construction, which is slated for completion in 2027.
