East Texas A&M University is constructing the $70 million Event Center to drive athletic performance and engagement on its Commerce campus. Designed by Gensler, the multifunctional sports facility will be the home of the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams, as well as hosting major college and community events such graduations, concerts, and trade shows.

The 65,000-sf building will provide approximately 2,500 stadium seats, with two suites and a loge box accommodating 40 guests. Four team locker rooms will be complemented by a training room and eight offices for coaches. The venue will offer two flexible press rooms, video scoreboards, and the technology and infrastructure to support a range of events. Visitors will benefit from access to family entertainment zones and a range of premium food and beverage services.

The surrounding area will include a plaza, an outdoor stage, a restaurant, and parking capacity for 800 cars. The hub will anchor a future master-planned development involving the creation of further entertainment space, retail outlets, restaurants, an auxiliary gymnasium, and an adjacent hotel.

Hoar Construction broke ground on the project in March 2025. The Sports Facilities Companies have been selected to operate the venue. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2026.
