Site work will begin in late 2025 on Blackpool Multiversity in the United Kingdom. The £65 million ($87.2 million) campus is being created by Blackpool and the Fylde College in collaboration with Blackpool Council. Designed by Hawkins\Brown, the five-story building will enable a robust technical and professional curriculum that support skills growth and aligns with employer needs in Lancashire. The vibrant development will increase accessibility to education by offering more than 70 individual courses with flexible delivery modalities.
Incorporating air source heat pumps, the sustainably designed structure will aspire to carbon neutrality, with extensive glazing maximizing access to natural light. On the rooftop, a photovoltaic array will generate renewable energy, and a green terrace will function as a multipurpose space for study and relaxation. Additional land will allow for future academic expansion or the creation of commercial offices.
Construction is set to begin in 2026 and occupancy is anticipated by September of 2027. Morgan Sindall is the general contractor. Avison Young is serving as planning consultant and CBRE is the project manager and cost consultant. The project team also includes Civic Engineers, KJ Tait, Fortis Facades, Egniol Consulting, and Hydrock, now part of Stantec. Multiversity represents the fourth phase of Blackpool Council’s £350 million plan to regenerate the Talbot Gateway area.
