Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) officially began construction in April of 2026 on the Future Cancer Hospital in Boston. The $1.68 billion facility was designed by Payette to evolve with rapid advances in cancer treatment, address the need for expanded capacity, and ensure timely access to specialized care. Offering 300 beds across 10 inpatient floors, the 450,000-sf structure will accommodate services spanning diagnosis, imaging, radiation oncology, and family support, as well as an observation unit, a pharmacy, a café, and a lobby garden.

The transformative development will rise on the site of the Joslin Diabetes Center, where deconstruction work is currently underway. Proximity to the outpatient and research facilities of Dana-Farber and BIDMC in Longwood will promote a bench-to-bedside clinical model. Featuring three skybridge connectors, the sophisticated nexus will create an interlocking campus to enable a seamless experience from outpatient to inpatient treatment. The all-electric building is targeting LEED Gold certification and will integrate a high-performance rainscreen façade.

Upon completion, the project will be New England’s only inpatient hospital dedicated exclusively to cancer care. LeMessurier is serving as structural engineer with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates as landscape architect. Occupancy is anticipated in 2031.
