Georgia Tech Builds Clough Learning Commons
Georgia Institute of Technology has selected Turner Construction to build the $63 million G. Wayne Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons in Atlanta. Slated for completion in May of 2011, the 220,000-sf facility will house technology-rich classrooms, laboratories, lecture halls, project rooms, and an information technology center.
Lee County VA Breaks Ground on Outpatient Clinic
Lee County VA broke ground in January of 2010 on its 224,000-sf Outpatient Clinic in Tampa, Fla. HOK provided master planning, programming, and architectural design services for the project, which is comprised of ambulatory surgery and diagnostic support facilities. The patient-focused center will provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary specialty care and treatment.
UC Berkeley Plans Helios Energy Research Facility West
The University of California, Berkeley will break ground in June of 2010 on the 113,000-gsf Helios Research Facility West in downtown Berkeley. The 64,000-nsf project will house wet laboratories for molecular and microbial biology, fermentation, and chemical separation, as well as greenhouses, warm and cold rooms, shared instrumentation space, offices, workrooms, and conference space. Accommodating biofuels research and development, the Helios facility will house the BP-funded Energy Biosciences Institute.
University of Florida Plans Clinical and Translational Complex
The University of Florida's Institute on Aging will construct a 40,000-sf clinical and translational research complex in Gainesville. Supported by $15 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding awarded by the National Institutes of Health, the interdisciplinary project will provide laboratories, training rooms, conference rooms, and facilities for clinical research recruitment and assessment. LEED Platinum sustainable design certification will be sought for the four-story complex.
Princeton University Plans High-Performance Research Computing Center
Princeton University is planning to construct the 40,000-sf High-Performance Research Computing Center in Plainsboro, N.J. Located on the Forrestal Campus, the two-story building will include a computing area, mechanical and electrical support, and office space. Occupancy is expected in 2011. The facility will house the Terrascale Infrastructure for Groundbreaking Research in Engineering and Science (TIGRESS).
