NIH Designs Porter Neuroscience Research Center Phase II

The National Institutes of Health has selected Perkins & Will to design the second phase of the Porter Neuroscience Research Center in Bethesda, Md. The construction cost is estimated at $150 million. Slated for completion in the third quarter of 2013, the project will provide generic laboratories, offices, animal holding facilities, and conference rooms. The completed Porter Neuroscience Research Center will encompass 600,000 sf. LEED Platinum sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility.

North Memorial Health Care Opens Maple Grove Hospital

North Memorial Health Care opened the 225,000-sf Maple Grove Hospital on December 30, 2009. The patient-centered facility includes a birthing center, emergency department, and five operating rooms. The hospital was built with many natural, regionally-sourced, and recycled materials. The facility features abundant natural light, occupancy sensors, and advanced HVAC systems for reduced energy consumption. Maple Grove Hospital represents a partnership between North Memorial Health Care and Fairview Health Services.

Central Texas College Builds Nursing Education Building

Central Texas College is building the $23 million Nursing Education Building in Killeen. Ground was broken on the facility in July of 2009 with completion expected in spring of 2011. The two-story, 85,000-sf project will be shared with Tarleton State University-Central Texas and Metroplex Hospital. The building will provide 19 classrooms, 69 faculty offices, and eight medical simulation labs.

Syngenta Biotechnology Builds Beijing R&D Center

Syngenta Biotechnology initiated construction on a research and development facility in Beijing in December of 2009. The project represents an investment of $5 million over five years. The center will support research in crop genetics and biofuels.

Deloitte Plans Learning and Leadership Development Center

Deloitte has awarded Turner Construction a $130 million contract to build a 712,000-sf learning and leadership development center in Fort Worth, Texas. Slated for completion in 2011, the facility will house 800 guest rooms, conference spaces, 35 classrooms, and 800 guest rooms. LEED Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
