Notre Dame University Opens Innovation Park

Notre Dame University celebrated the opening of the $13 million Innovation Park in October of 209. Located in South Bend, Ind., the 55,000-sf facility houses over 30,000-sf of laboratory space, customizable offices, and conference rooms. Construction began on the business incubator in October of 2008. Innovation Park will provide research space for the Midwest Institute of Nanotechnology Development (MIND), an organization comprised of scientists from Notre Dame, Purdue University, Penn State University, The University of Illinois, and The University of Michigan.

Department of Defense Constructs BSL-3 Hazardous Materials Response Facility

The Department of Defense has awarded The Christman Co. a $12.5 million contract to build the Hazardous Materials Response Facility on the Pentagon Reservation in Arlington, Va. Designed by Lord, Aeck, and Sargent, the 28,000-sf facility will house a BSL-3 laboratory, offices, and equipment for responding to biological threats. Construction will begin on the project in spring of 2009 with completion slated for summer of 2011.

Indiana University School of Medicine Dedicates Fort Wayne Education Center

Indiana University School of Medicine dedicated the $12 million Medical Education Center in Fort Wayne on October 30, 2009. The 42,000-sf facility features technology-rich classrooms, research space, four patient exam rooms, two conference rooms, and 14 faculty offices. Developed in partnership with Purdue University, the Medical Education Center was designed by MSKTD and Associates with Weigand Construction as general contractor. Construction began on the project in 2007 and reached completion in mid-2009.

DuPont Pioneer Hi-Bred Builds Ithaca Research Center

DuPont Pioneer Hi-Bred is planning to construct a 22,000-sf research facility in Ithaca, N.Y. Housing laboratories, administrative offices, and conference rooms, the facility will support testing and development of corn hybrids. Pioneer Hi-Bred is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.

University of Texas Health Science Center Breaks Ground on Academic Medical Center

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler broke ground on a $67 million academic medical center in late October of 2009. Providing clinical care and medical education, the 81,000-sf facility will be built in two phases over five years. The first $42 million phase will include construction of the building's shell and a first-floor cancer center. The second $25 million phase will complete the second and third floors to house classrooms, an auditorium, and a medical library.
