Paris Junior College Opens Academic Facility
Paris Junior College opened its $13 million academic building in Greenville, Texas, in July of 2009. Designed by SHW Group of Dallas, the two-story, 42,000-sf facility contains flexible, technology-enabled classrooms, a science lab, a computer lab, a library, administrative offices, and a large meeting room that can also be used as a classroom. The facility will serve 2,500 students and was constructed by Charter Builders of Dallas. The project represents the first building in the college's multiphase plan for the 172-acre site.
William Carey University Builds College of Osteopathic Medicine
William Carey University is building the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, Miss. Slated for occupancy in fall of 2010, the first phase is comprised of a 46,000-sf facility housing classrooms and laboratories. The second and third phases will reach completion in 2014 providing teaching amphitheaters, conference rooms, and administrative offices. The total construction cost for the project is $11 million.
GE Plans Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center
General Electric Co. is planning to build the $100 million Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center in Van Buren Township, Mich. Sited to provide a revitalization of the Detroit area's manufacturing sector, the 100,000-sf R&D facility will house up to 1,200 engineers and researchers engaged in the development of clean energy technologies.
Medco Health Solutions Develops Zionsville Campus
Medco Health Solutions is expanding its Zionsville, Ind., campus with the construction of a $17.3 therapy research center. Medco is also building a $150 million mail order prescription facility. The 452,000-sf project broke ground in March of 2008 and will open in fall of 2009. The therapy research center and the prescription facility will house a total of 1,400 employees.
Dow Chemcial Builds Algae Ethanol Plant
Dow Chemical Co. is partnering with Algenol Biofuels of Naples, Fla., to construct an ethanol production plant in Freeport, Texas. The facility will utilize algae to convert carbon dioxide into ethanol. Able to produce 100,000 gallons of ethanol per year, the facility will feature bioreactors made of advanced materials and specialty films created by Dow. Algenol is also constructing an $850 million demonstration plant in Mexico with partner Sonora Fields S.A.P.I. de C.V., a subsidiary of Biofields.
