Ascension Health Builds Middle Tennessee Medical Center
Ascension Health is constructing the $267 million Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Slated for completion in June of 2010 and occupancy the following October, the 561,000-sf replacement hospital will include 10 operating rooms, 11 labor and delivery suites, an intensive care unit, emergency, and diagnostic imaging facilities. The general contractor for the 286-bed project is Turner Construction.
UT Austin Builds Hackerman Research Building
The University of Texas at Austin is constructing the $175 million Norman Hackerman Research Building. Slated for completion by year-end 2010, the research and teaching complex will accommodate the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Institute of Neuroscience, and the School of Biological Science. The Hackerman Research Building will include seven organic chemistry teaching labs, 14 organic chemistry research labs, neurobiology labs, and core facilities for electron microscopy, NMR, and fMRI (functional magnetic resonance).
State of Texas to Require BIM for Construction Projects
The Texas Facilities Commission announced in August of 2009 that BIM (Building Information Modeling) will be required for all new state design and construction projects. The mandate includes projects at all state university systems.Learn more about BIM.
Hoag Memorial Hospital Renovates Irvine Facility
Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is planning an $84 million renovation of its newly acquired Irvine Center. The 244,000-sf acute care general hospital is expected to open in 2010. The sustainably designed renovation will feature green building technologies for optimal energy savings and indoor air quality. The completed facility will house updated surgical suites, pre- and post-surgery recovery areas, an emergency room, imaging, outpatient treatment, and inpatient rooms.
University of Western Ontario Constructs MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion
The University of Western Ontario's $22 million Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion is slated for completion in September of 2009. Located in London, Ontario, the 45,000-sf facility houses research laboratories for sustainable technologies and materials. LEED Gold certification will be sought for the project. Supporting the department of engineering, the facility features an atrium, a green roof, a wind turbine, photovoltaic panels, and a water recovery system.
