University of Colorado at Boulder Plans Aerospace and Energy Systems Building

The University of Colorado at Boulder is planning to construct the $40 million Aerospace and Energy Systems Building. The facility will house research clusters for earth sciences, sensing, space science and technology, and unmanned aircraft system design and fabrication. The Aerospace and Energy Systems Building will support collaboration with government and industry partners including Ball Aerospace Systems and Lockheed Martin.

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology Dedicates Academic Center

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology dedicated its $73 million Academic Center in February of 2009. The 371,000-sf, 16-story facility will support STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education with 24 technology-rich classrooms, teaching laboratories, seminar rooms, a multi-media production facility, and a 125-seat auditorium. The project was designed by Burt Hill and includes video conferencing and distance learning capabilities.

CDC Builds Fort Collins Biocontainment Labs

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have initiated construction on a $14 million laboratory project in Fort Collins, Colo. Located in shell space on the fourth floor of the CDC’s existing facility, the facility will house moderate to high level biocontainment labs, offices, and support. The project team includes general contractor JE Dunn Construction Company and design-build partner Smith Carter Architects and Engineers. Completion is expected in January of 2010.

Presbyterian College Constructs School of Pharmacy

Presbyterian College will begin renovating a 50,000-sf facility in Clinton, S.C., in April of 2009 to house its School of Pharmacy. The completed Frampton Hall will house two auditoriums, five classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, faculty and administrative offices, a clinic, and a simulation area. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2010.

Valeritas Expands Shrewsbury Lab

Medical technology company Valeritas is engaged in an expansion of its laboratory facility in Shrewsbury, N.J. The expansion will add 2,000 sf of cleanroom and R&D space to Valeritas’ 21,000-sf facility. The construction manager for the project is Integrated Builders of Braintree, Mass. Valeritas, a manufacturer of drug delivery devices for diabetes treatment, is based is Parsippany, N.J.
