George Mason University Constructs Hotel and Conference Center
George Mason University has awarded a $53.6 million contract to Concord Eastridge and Balfour Beatty Construction to build a 170,800-sf hotel and conference center in Fairfax, Va. The Mason Inn will include 20,000-sf of conference facilities integrated with a 149-room hotel. The facility will also include 11 meeting rooms, a ballroom, dining, and an 80-space parking garage.
Trent University Builds Health Sciences Facility
Trent University has selected M.J. Dixon Construction to build the $12.5 million Health Sciences facility in Peterborough, Ontario. Construction will begin on the 49,000-sf building by year-end 2008 with completion expected by September of 2010. Housing programs in nursing, psychology, and anthropology, the two-story facility will support healthcare education and research with eight wet science labs, classrooms, and faculty offices.
Wacker Polymers America Builds Allentown Headquarters
Wacker Polymers America broke ground on its 67,000-sf headquarters in Allentown, Pa., in November of 2008. Supporting the creation of environmentally friendly dispersions, binders, polymer additives, and dispersible powders, the facility will house administrative functions and laboratories for R&D, applications testing, and product development. Occupancy is expected in late summer of 2009. Wacker Polymers America is a subsidiary of Germany-based Wacker Chemie AG.
St. Luke's Expands Quakertown Hospital
St. Luke’s Hospital is engaged in a $20 million expansion of its Quakertown healthcare facilities. A $9 million, 22,000-sf outpatient center is currently under construction and will open in spring of 2009. An $8 million bone and joint institute will be built in Quakertown less than a quarter of a mile from the main hospital. St. Luke’s is also investing $1 million to renovate and modernize 40 medical-surgical and ICU beds in its existing hospital.
Uniontown Hospital Expands Pittsburgh Facility
Uniontown Hospital is engaged in a $59 million expansion and renovation of its Pittsburgh facility. A new patient tower will provide 56 private rooms. An expansion of the emergency department will enable the hospital’s main entrance to be realigned and outpatient services to be consolidated. The four-story patient tower will open in April of 2009.
