Duke University Medical Center Creates Education and Pediatric Facilities
Duke University School of Medicine is planning to build a $35 million medical education facility in Durham, N.C. Housing instruction and clinical and basic research, the Education Center will include classrooms, lecture halls, offices, meeting rooms, and simulation laboratories for team-based learning programs. Additionally, Duke will build a $15 million facility for the McGovern-Davison Children’s Health Center consolidating inpatient and outpatient care for children and adolescents.
TriPoint Medical Center Constructs Concord Township Hospital
Tripoint Medical Center is constructing a 300,000-sf hospital in Concord Township, Ohio. The technology-rich digital hospital will support patient-centered healthcare in a facility with all private patient rooms. The $155 million facility is slated for completion in 2009 and will include a family birthing center.
Ricketts Regional Biocontainment Laboratory Reaches Completion
The Howard T. Ricketts Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at Argonne National Lab officially opened on April 6, 2008 in Argonne, Ill. Designed by Flad Architects, the 54,100-gsf facility will support multi-pathogen research for the University of Chicago’s Great Lakes Regional Center of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Research and other partner institutions. The Ricketts laboratory will enable the creation of vaccines and diagnostic devices to counter bioterrorism and emerging infectious diseases.
The Jackson Laboratory Expands West Sacramento Mouse Facility
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX® Mice & Services) is engaged in an expansion of its mouse production facility in West Sacramento, Calif. The project will increase the size of the building from 40,000-sf to 200,000-sf. The Jackson Laboratory transports approximately 50,000 mice per week from its Bar Harbor, Maine headquarters and between 5,000 and 8,000 mice per week from West Sacramento.
University of Rhode Island Constructs Undersea Exploration Center
The University of Rhode Island has initiated construction on the $15 million Undersea Exploration Center in Narragansett. The project, which includes an expansion and rehabilitation of the Pell Marine Science Library, is being constructed by Gilbane Building Companies. Designed by Burt Hill of Boston, the project will integrate key resources and services of the Graduate School of Oceanography.
