Genzyme Expands Waterford Facility
Genzyme announced a €130 million investment in the expansion of its Waterford, Ireland, campus in April of 2008. The project will add 5,600-sm to the existing 6,800-sm facility to support sterile fill/finish manufacturing, softgel manufacturing, administration, and laboratories for quality control, microbiology, chemistry, and stability. Construction will begin in summer of 2008 with completion slated for late 2009. Following commissioning and validation, the expanded facility will begin production in mid-2011.
Reliant Healthcare Constructs Bedford Rehab Hospital
Reliant Healthcare Partners of Dallas is constructing the 62,000-sf Reliant Rehabilitation Hospital Mid Cities in Bedford, Texas. The $24 million, three-story facility will include a 20-bed orthopedic center and is slated to open in the second quarter of 2009. The 60-bed facility is being developed in partnership with Southwest Verity Capital of Dallas. Approximately 40 doctors will have a 45 percent ownership in the hospital.
Duke University Medical Center Creates Education and Pediatric Facilities
Duke University School of Medicine is planning to build a $35 million medical education facility in Durham, N.C. Housing instruction and clinical and basic research, the Education Center will include classrooms, lecture halls, offices, meeting rooms, and simulation laboratories for team-based learning programs. Additionally, Duke will build a $15 million facility for the McGovern-Davison Children’s Health Center consolidating inpatient and outpatient care for children and adolescents.
TriPoint Medical Center Constructs Concord Township Hospital
Tripoint Medical Center is constructing a 300,000-sf hospital in Concord Township, Ohio. The technology-rich digital hospital will support patient-centered healthcare in a facility with all private patient rooms. The $155 million facility is slated for completion in 2009 and will include a family birthing center.
Purdue University Breaks Ground on Tech Center
Purdue University broke ground on the $14.5 million Purdue Technology Center II on April 7, 2008. The 105,000-sf project will support 26 companies and represents a 13-acre expansion of the 725-acre Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette, Ind. Additionally, Purdue is planning to construct the Paul W. Ogle Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Laboratories at the Purdue University College of Technology in New Albany. The laboratories, which will include equipment such as a rapid prototyping machine, are expected to open in fall 2008.
