UTSA Develops Center of Excellence in Biotech Education & Processing
The University of Texas at San Antonio has created the Center of Excellence in Biotechnology & Bioprocessing Education at Brooks City-Base. Sited in the newly renovated Building 175W, the 8,000-sf facility will train military and civilian personnel how to handle biosensors, vaccines, and other biological products.
Baptist Health System Develops Jacksonville Projects
Baptist Health System has contracted QORE Property Science of Jacksonville, Fla., to provide quality control services on two major construction projects in Jacksonville. Baptist Medical Center will expand with a four-story addition and four-story parking garage. Baptist South, a new 92-bed hospital, will be constructed on the Southside. Both projects are slated for completion in 12 months.
Southwest Washington Medical Center Expands Vancouver Campus
Southwest Washington Medical Center will develop a $123-million expansion of its Medical Center Campus on the 2.5-acre former Chrysler/Plymouth auto dealership site in Vancouver, Wash. The facility will add new surgery suites and 82 patient beds.
Donald Danforth Plant Science Center Develops Post-Incubator Facility
The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center received a $2-million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration to support the construction of the “North 8” wet lab shell space in St. Louis. The funding will be combined with $13-million in existing investments to construct a 60,000-sf “post-incubator” development sited next to the Danforth Center. The project will support plant and life science business growth in St. Louis. Future plans include expansion of the facility to 180,000 sf.
Amatrol Builds Jeffersonville HQ and Traning Center
Amatrol Inc. is planning to build an 80,000-sf facility in the Northport Business Centre in Jeffersonville, Ky. Designed by Kovert-Hawkins Architects of Jeffersonville, the facility will house the company’s headquarters, R&D operations, client training center, and manufacturing operations. Project contractor AML, based in Floyds Knobs, will begin construction in September 2003 with completion expected in January 2004. Amatrol, a producer of skill-based technical learning systems for use in education, is currently housed in 45,000 sf in the Jeffersonville Industrial Park.
