Polaris Opens Fluid Analysis Facility
Indianapolis, Ind.-based Polaris Laboratories has opened a new fluid analysis testing facility in Houston. The 5,000-sf laboratory, which can complete most routine testing in 24 hours, has the capacity to process 3,000 samples per day. Polaris provides fluid analysis testing to the transportation, power generation, and gas compression industries.
Virginia Tech University Develops Supercomputing Facility
Virginia Tech University is working with Emerson’s Network Power unit to develop a new state-of-the-art supercomputing facility. Emerson, based in St. Louis, designed and installed a cooling system for the supercomputer that does not occupy needed floor space. The supercomputer consists of a cluster of 1,100 personal computers.
Monongahela Valley Hospital Plans Emergency Decontamination Unit
Monongahela Valley Hospital is planning to double the capacity of its emergency department with an $8-million expansion project. Increasing the number of treatment rooms from 12 to 24, the expansion will increase the size of the department from 7,100-sf to 18,450-sf. A decontamination room, a new security office, and an isolation room for patients with infectious respiratory diseases will also be constructed. Monongahela Valley Hospital is located in Monongahela, Pa. Construction is slated to begin in early 2004 with completion expected in 2005.
Arizona State University Constructs Student Union
Arizona State University East is building a new 27,000-sf student union on its Mesa campus. Housing student life programs, multipurpose meeting space, study areas, dining facilities, workspace for student organizations, a campus bookstore, and a game room, the building is slated for completion in August 2004. The $5.4 million project was designed by Gould Evans Associates of Phoenix. The general contractor is Turner Construction of Phoenix.
Presbyterian Healthcare Breaks Ground on Rio Rancho Medical Center
Presbyterian Healthcare Services broke ground in mid-September 2003 on the 65,000-sf Rio Rancho Medical Center in Rio Rancho, N.M. Employing approximately 40 physicians and specialists, the $17-million center will offer services including cardiology, dermatology, obstetrics and gynecology, physical therapy, podiatry, pain management, and behavioral health. The project architect is Dekker/Perich/Sabatini with Klinger Constructors as general contractor. Completion is expected in May 2004.
