Chandler Unified School District has completed work with contractor McCarthy on Phase I of the first CM-at-risk public education projects ever awarded in Arizona. A $15.3-million new shared campus housing an elementary and junior high school, Phase I includes 94,000 sf of space for two junior high wings plus administrative, kitchen, cafeteria and gym facilities. Phase II, a 79,000-sf media center and four elementary school pods, began construction in July. Architect for the project was Orcutt/Winslow Partnership of Phoenix.

Wyeth has worked with McCarthy to upgrade its St. Louis facilities, purchased in 1998, for the production of the hemoophilia drug ReFacto®. McCarthy has completed more than 500 projects for a total of almost $30 million to ready the cGMP manufacturing facilities, labs, warehouse and offices for Wyeth's manufacturing needs. Currently, the St. Louis facility is the only one in the United States producing ReFacto®. Flad & Associates of Madison, Wisc., has provided architectural services.

National City, Calif.-based Corky McMillin Cos. broke ground on the first two buildings in the Liberty Station development in October 2002. Sited at the former Naval Training Center in San Diego, the $62-million project will eventually accommodate 380,000 sf in seven office buildings. The first two facilities are slated to open in mid-2003. The project team consists of architect KMA Architecture and Engineering of San Diego and Bycor General Contractors of San Diego.

Kaiser Permanente is building the $327-million Santa Clara Hospital. The 1.2-million-sf hospital and medical office complex will be accompanied by a four-story, 1,470-car parking garage which will break ground in November 2002. The first phase of construction includes a 550,000-sf medical office building and a 300,000-sf ancillary building expected to open in fall of 2004. The second phase consists of a three-story, 400,000-sf hospital with a new cardiovascular surgery center slated to open in 2006.

Formulated adhesives manufacturer Forbo Adhesives LLC will locate its North American headquarters in 25,000-sf of lab and office space in Morrisville's Keystone Park. The project will cost an estimated $3-million and will create 60 new Durham County jobs. Forbo Adhesives maintains manufacturing facilities in Dallas and Omaha, and is a subsidiary of Zurich, Switzerland-based Forbo International SA.
