Pitcairn Properties Plans Offices for Wal-Mart Suppliers
Pitcairn Properties of Jenkintown, Pa., is planning to build three office facilities totalling 600,000 sf to 750,000 sf adjacent to Wal-Mart's headquarters in Benton, Ark. Partnering with real estate investor and developer FBE Ltd. of New York, Pitcairn will build the $80- to $100-million project in phases. Wal-Mart's suppliers are expected to lease the offices, which Wal-Mart has requested be connected with its headquarters via fiber-optic cabling and an elevated walkway.
San Jose City College Builds Tech Center
San Jose City College is building the 80,000-sf Tech Center. The five-story classroom facility will offer career courses in computer technology, business, and dental and emergency medical technologies. Designed by BFGC Architects of Oakland, Calif., the center will house the Institute for Business Performance and a 200-seat conference center. The project is one of five buildings planned as part of the community college's five-year capital development program and is being built by Barry Swenson.
Falmouth Hospital Designs New Medical Pavilion
Falmouth Hospital has selected SMMA/Hoskins Scott Associates, a practice group of SMMA/Symmes Maini & McKee Associates, to design a 63,250-sf medical pavilion. The three-story building will house medical offices, patient care facilities, rehabilitation services and an endoscopy suite.
University of Georgia Plans Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility
The University of Georgia is planning to build a $10-million, 33,000-sf commercial pharmaceutical manufacturing facility at the University's Riverbend Research Village in Athens. Designed by Lockwood Green of Spartanburg, S.C., the project's construction will be managed by Atkins Hanscomb Faithful & Gould of Atlanta. The building will include research labs, classrooms, offices, and bioprocessing and manufacturing space for solid oral dosage medicines. The project is slated for groundbreaking in May 2003.
UPS Completes Louisville International Airport Hub
United Parcel Service has completed its new world-class central hub facility at the Louisville International Airport, a $1-billion, seven-year project that more than doubles the size of the company's existing facility. Totalling over 4 million sf, the expansion enables UPS to process approximately 300,000 packages per hour, a 50% productivity improvement. The terminal's infrastructure can support an increase to 500,000 packages per hour. The facility now includes 44 airplane loading docks and more than 17,000 conveyor belts.
