McGill Environmental Systems Expands With Triangle Facility

McGill Environmental Systems, one of North Carolina's largest composting companies, is building a new 90,000-sf facility near Merry Oaks. The $3-million facility will process 2000,000 tons of waste annually, more than doubling McGill's current capacity. The plant will convert industrial waste from timber products, food processor grease-trap waste, and wastewater residuals into fertilizer and ornamental landscaping materials.

Inova Unveils Decontamination Facilities

Inova Health System has opened new decontamination facilities at all five Inova hospitals, including Inova Fairfax Hospital, as part of an emergency preparedness initiative. Each unit houses 6 to 8 shower stalls, designed and built by Chantilly-based Scott Long Construction, and has a decontamination capacity of 500 patients per hour in the event of a bioterrorism attack. The total project construction cost was approximately $350,000.

San Mateo Community College Upgrade Planned

San Mateo County will invest $207 million to upgrade three community college campuses over the next five years. The College of San Mateo will house a new $21-million Science Center designed by tBP Architecture of Concord, Calif. Noll & Tam of Oakland, Calif., will design Canada College's $17-million Library Center. The new $16-million Student and Community Center, designed by KMD of San Francisco, will be built on the Skyline College campus.

GSA Builds Sustainable San Francisco Facility

The General Services Administration (GSA) is building a $141-million Class A federal building in San Francisco. Designed by Morphosis of Santa Monica, Calif., the 600,000-sf project is comprised of a hybrid two-building set, an 18-story glass tower connected via a 3,000-sf plaza-level cafeteria to an adjacent four-story, 100,000-sf building. The tower is 65 feet wide, allowing natural light to enter on both sides, and features a stainless steel screen that acts as a natural circulation engine on the building's south side.

UC Riverside Plans New Psychology Building

 The University of California Riverside has completed the pre-design phase of its new Psychology Building. The $33.7-million, 86,526-gsf  (51,915-asf)  facility will house dry and wet instructional and research labs, faculty and administrative offices, and support for the Department of Psychology.
