Cornell University Plans Athletic Facilities

Cornell University of Ithaca, New York, has selected Boston-based Cannon Design to plan two new facilities--a 900-seat wrestling center and the Cornell Boathouse. Replacing an existing facility, the boathouse will accommodate both male and female crew teams.

CSC Builds Unified Campus in Austin

Computer Sciences Corporation is locating a new campus in downtown Austin through a public-private collaboration with the city. Phase one of the $160 million facility will house 350,000-sf of office space and 42,000-sf of retail space. Upon completion of the second phase, the project will total 700,000-sf, with 80,000-sf of office and 100,000-sf of retail. Architect for the project is PageSoutherlandPage.

SDSU Athletic Center Nearing Completion

San Diego State University's (SDSU) Aztec Athletic Center and Hall of Fame was topped out in April by San Diego-based Nielsen Dillingham Builders. Completion of the project is anticipated by summer of 2001. Built on an existing 184,000-sf SDSU site, the $13.67 million project is being funded by donations from the owner of the San Diego Padres. The center will house administration, coaches' offices, a central utility plant, academic, support, and media relations facilities, as well as locker and weight rooms.

Teleglobe Relocates Headquarters to Reston

Teleglobe is relocating its corporate headquarters from Montreal to Reston, adding 200 personnel to its 800-person staff base in Northern Virginia.  As part of a plan to build data centers around the country, Teleglobe is planning an 126,000-sf facility in D.C. as well as searching for a site to lease on the Dulles Corridor in the "Silicon Valley of telecommunications".

Alkermes Leases Chelsea Site

Cambridge-based pharmaceutical company Alkermes, Inc., has leased 91,000-sf in Chelsea at Brickyard Square Biotech Park to house its subsidiary, Advanced Inhalation Research. The space features 28-foot high ceilings conducive to manufacturing. Alkermes will invest more than $25 million in the structure.
