Uptown Consortium Plans CoMade Innovation Hub
Uptown Consortium is planning to build the $26 million CoMade innovation hub in Cincinnati. Designed by BDR Design Group, the three-story, 100,000-sf facility will provide leasable space for startup companies engaged in product development and early-stage manufacturing operations. The building will also accommodate integrated job training programs to support the creation of a skilled workforce. Completion is expected by fall of 2020. The construction and land acquisition cost for the project is $21 million.
California State University, Chico Breaks Ground on Physical Sciences Building
California State University, Chico broke ground on a $101 million physical sciences building in October of 2018. Providing teaching labs for chemistry, physics, and geology, the four-story, 110,200-sf STEM facility will house active learning classrooms, graduate research studios, collaboration spaces, administrative and faculty offices, and an interactive lab for elementary school programs.
Sam Houston State University Plans College of Osteopathic Medicine
Sam Houston State University will break ground in late 2018 on a 107,000-sf facility for the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Conroe, Texas. Designed by Page Southerland Page and The S/L/A/M Collaborative, the project will be located on seven acres in Grand Central Park, a 2,000-acre mixed-use campus created by Johnson Development Corp.
Ramaco Builds Carbon Advanced Materials Facility
Ramaco Carbon began construction in October of 2018 on the Carbon Advanced Materials (iCAM) facility in Sheridan, Wyo. Providing collaborative research space for academic, government, and industry partners, the 10,000-sf building will include a 3D printing and manufacturing suite, a pilot plant, laboratories, and offices. Designed by Dynia Architects, the facility will support the development of advanced products based on the carbon derived from coal. The engineering consultant for the center is WWC Engineering.
University of Birmingham Opens Collaborative Teaching Laboratory
The University of Birmingham opened the £40 million Collaborative Teaching Laboratory in October of 2018 in the United Kingdom. Designed by Sheppard Robson to support team-based, experiential learning, the three-story, 72,120-sf facility accommodates STEM programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The interdisciplinary building provides an e-lab, a wet lab, a dry lab, and a discovery zone with interactive media displays on the ground floor.
