Eastern Kentucky University Partners with Siemens for Energy Savings
Eastern Kentucky University's utility costs have remained stable over the last two years due to the implementation five years ago of an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) with Siemens Building Technologies. Aiming to generate savings and address deferred maintenance needs, the $27 million contract included extensive infrastructure upgrades to HVAC, lighting, and water systems, as well as the integration of building automation technologies.
University of Warwick and Jaguar Land Rover Create National Automotive Innovation Campus
The University of Warwick is partnering with Jaguar Land Rover and Warwick Manufacturing Group to create the $160 million National Automotive Innovation Campus in Coventry in the United Kingdom. Housing over 900 staff from academia and industry, the 322,000-sf research facility will provide engineering labs, design studios, virtual reality suites, demonstration areas, and instructional space. Construction is expected to begin on the project in September of 2014.
AIA Introduces New Contract Documents for Sustainable Projects
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) today announced the release in November of 2013 of seven new Sustainable Projects (SP) contract documents. The release includes SP versions of the AIA’s two families of Construction Management documents, Construction Manager as Adviser (CMa) and Construction Manager as Constructor (CMc), as well as B103–2007 SP, Standard Form of Agreement Between Owner and Architect for a Large or Complex Sustainable Project.
Stony Brook University Breaks Ground on Medical and Research Translation Facility
Stony Brook University broke ground on the $194 million Medical and Research Translation (MART) building in November of 2013. The eight-story, 250,000-sf facility will accommodate up to 250 faculty members working in collaboration with physicians and medical professionals to develop advanced cancer treatments and medical imaging technologies. MART will provide 25 cancer biology labs, a 30-room cancer clinic, a 30-station clinical infusion center, a 300-seat auditorium, 12 classrooms, and conference rooms.
Monsanto Breaks Ground on Chesterfield Expansion
Monsanto broke ground in November of 2013 on a 400,000-sf expansion of its 210-acre campus in Chesterfield, Mo. The project includes the construction of a $140 million technology and research building, a $70 million conference center, and a $30 million parking garage topped by a $60 million greenhouse. Accommodating 675 investigators and staff, the expansion will provide 250 labs and plant growth chambers as well as 36 greenhouses for collaborative research in breeding, biotechnology, and agronomics.
