Jackson Lab Builds Farmington Genomics Facility
The Jackson Laboratory is building a four-story, 189,000-sf biomedical research facility in Farmington, Conn. Designed by Tsoi/Kobus Associates and Centerbrook Architects, the $135 million JAX Genomic Medicine building will house 300 researchers, technicians, and staff. The project is located on 17 acres at the University of Connecticut Health Science Center. Construction began on the facility in early 2013 and completion is expected in fall of 2014.
High Point University Plans School of Health Sciences
High Point University is planning to build a $60 million medical education building in High Point, N.C. The 170,000-sf facility will provide technology-rich classrooms, teaching laboratories, and offices for the School of Health Sciences and the School of Pharmacy. Construction will begin in 2015 with occupancy expected in late 2016.
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Plans Science Building
The University of Wisconsin is planning to build a $75 million science building on its Stevens Point campus. The four-story, 170,000-sf facility will provide teaching and research space for biology and chemistry. Construction is expected to begin in 2015 and reach completion in 2017. LEED Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
University of Nebraska Plans Health Science Education Building
The University of Nebraska is planning to construct the $19 million Health Science Education Building in Kearney. Construction will begin in January of 2014 with completion slated for June of 2015. The 30,000-sf project will provide education and training facilities including classrooms, anatomy and physiology labs, a clinical simulation lab, and a distance learning hub. The Health Science Education Building will house programs for the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing and the University of Nebraska Kearney School of Allied Health Professionals.
St. Vincent Medical Center Northeast Opens Fishers Hospital
St. Vincent Medical Center Northeast will open the 110,000-sf Fishers Hospital in April of 2013. Designed by BSA LifeStructures, the 50-bed inpatient facility includes 30 medical/surgical rooms, 10 observation beds, and 10 labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum (LDRP) rooms. Featuring noise-minimizing acoustics, decentralized waiting rooms, and abundant natural light, St. Vincent Fishers Hospital is also the first hospital in Indiana and the 17th in the nation to register for LEED for Healthcare (LEED-HC) certification.
