Dalhousie University Plans Collaborative Health Education Building
Dalhousie University will begin building a $35 million collaborative health education building in Halifax in March of 2014. The five-story, 106,000-sf facility will provide active-learning classrooms, a clinical skills simulation suite, seminar rooms, and a learning commons. The project team includes Barrie & Langille Architects of Halifax, Moriyama & Teshima Architects of Toronto, and MHPM Project Managers.
Merck Plans Nantong Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility
Merck will begin building a $108 million pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in China in 2014. Located in the BioSpark development in Nantong, the 430,560-sf building will meet stringent international quality standards for the production of therapeutics. The highly efficient facility will be designed to minimize waste during the manufacturing process. Completion is expected in 2016 with commercial operations commencing in 2017.
IUPUI Opens Science Engineering Laboratory Building
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) opened the $25 million Science and Engineering Laboratory Building in fall of 2013. Designed by BSA LifeStructures in conjunction with Blackburn Architects, the collaborative 45,000-sf facility houses multidisciplinary research labs, classrooms for the School of Science and the School of Engineering and Technology, meeting rooms, and administrative space.
Eastern Kentucky University Partners with Siemens for Energy Savings
Eastern Kentucky University's utility costs have remained stable over the last two years due to the implementation five years ago of an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) with Siemens Building Technologies. Aiming to generate savings and address deferred maintenance needs, the $27 million contract included extensive infrastructure upgrades to HVAC, lighting, and water systems, as well as the integration of building automation technologies.
University of Warwick and Jaguar Land Rover Create National Automotive Innovation Campus
The University of Warwick is partnering with Jaguar Land Rover and Warwick Manufacturing Group to create the $160 million National Automotive Innovation Campus in Coventry in the United Kingdom. Housing over 900 staff from academia and industry, the 322,000-sf research facility will provide engineering labs, design studios, virtual reality suites, demonstration areas, and instructional space. Construction is expected to begin on the project in September of 2014.
