University of Colorado Plans Geosciences Complex

The University of Colorado will begin building a $100 million geosciences complex in September of 2012. Located on the East Campus in Boulder, the project will include renovation of the 280,000-sf MacAllister Building to house dry labs, classrooms, and offices, and construction of an 83,708-sf wet lab building. Completion is expected in May of 2014. The complex will provide a new home for the Environmental Studies Department.

Zayed University Opens Khalifa City Campus

Zayed University opened its new Khalifa City Campus in Abu Dhabi in September of 2011. Sited on 80 hectares, the academic and research campus includes 28 buildings, a sports complex, a convention center, and residential facilities. The $817 million project was developed in partnership with Mubadala Development Council and Abu Dhabi Education Council. Construction began on the campus in 2009.

Terrebonne Medical Center Opens Cancer Facility

Terrebonne General Medical Center will open the $14.8 million Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Care Center in September of 2011. Located in Houma, La., the three-story, 49,000-sf comprehensive cancer facility will provide surgery, oncology, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, inpatient care, and space for clinical research trials. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the project, which features energy efficient building systems and enhanced indoor air quality. The center was built by McDonnel Group of Metairie.

Louisiana State University Opens Alexandria Academic Center

Louisiana State University opened the $15.5 million Multi-Purpose Academic Center in Alexandria in September of 2011. The 70,000-sf facility houses 58 faculty offices, 17 classrooms, administrative offices, a computer lab, art and music studios, and a 175-seat theater. Construction began on the project in June of 2009.
