Connecticut College Creates Science Center
Connecticut College is engaged is a $20 million project to create a state-of-the-art science center. New London Hall will be completely renovated and a 6,500-sf addition will be constructed. The completed facility will provide labs, classrooms, and interaction space for programs in computer science, biology, and botany. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2012.
Analog Devices Builds Raheen R&D Facility
Analog Devices will invest $50 million to expand R&D operations at its Raheen campus in County Limerick, Ireland. The project includes construction of a 140,000-sf laboratory and product development facility.
GlobalFoundries Completes Dresden Cleanroom
GlobalFoundries completed construction in July of 2011 on an 110,000-sf wafer manufacturing facility at Fab 1 in Dresden, Germany. The project will enable Fab 1 to operate as a single integrated cleanroom, making the facility one of the the largest and most advanced wafer fabs in Europe.
Manitoba Health Builds Selkirk Hospital
Manitoba Health will build an 180,000-sf hospital in Selkirk. The 65-bed facility will feature 80 percent private rooms. The hospital will provide obstetrics, surgery, imaging, rehabilitation, and cancer treatment facilities. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the project, which will utilize ground-source heat pump technology and low-flow water fixtures. Occupancy is expected in 2014.
National University of Ireland Opens Galway Engineering Building
The National University of Ireland, Galway opened a $57.3 million engineering facility in July of 2011. Ground was broken on the project in October of 2009. The four-story, 153,385-sf building provides classrooms, lecture halls, faculty offices, and 36 laboratories. The sustainably designed facility is constructed with a voided slab system which integrates plastic bubbles into the concrete used in the structure. The building is designed to act as a teaching tool and includes heat exchangers, a biomass boiler, and grass roofs.
