Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Builds Sustainable Data Center
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center will begin renovating an existing 177,000-sf facility in July of 2011 to house a data center, labs, and offices. The sustainably designed facility will feature a modular exhaust system with fanwall and coil bypass technologies to avoid static pressure loss. The data center will utilize evaporative cooling.
Fraunhofer Plans Center for Sustainable Energy Systems
Fraunhofer will invest $20 million to create the Center for Sustainable Energy Systems in Boston. The renovated six-story, 50,000-sf facility will provide a living laboratory for the development of advanced building systems and materials. The center is being designed by DiMella Shaffer with Gilbane Building Company as construction manager and BR+A as engineer. Construction will begin in July of 2012 with completion expected by year-end 2012.
Georgian College's Health and Wellness Building Nears Completion
Georgian College will open the $65 million Health and Wellness building in August of 2011. Located in Barrie, Ontario, the three-story, 172,000-sf facility houses classrooms, offices, laboratories, and simulation suites for medical training. The sustainably designed building features five light wells to deliver abundant natural light to the interior. The classrooms and labs have glass walls for maximum transparency.
Carle Hospital Expands in Urbana
Carle Hospital will break ground in May of 2011 on a $220 million facility in Urbana, Ill. A nine-story, 390,000-sf tower will house the Carle Heart and Vascular Institute and 136 private inpatient rooms. Completion is expected in 2013.
Northeastern Ohio Medical University Breaks Ground on Research and Graduate Education Building
Northeastern Ohio Medical University broke ground on the $42 million Research and Graduate Education Building in May of 2011. The four-story, 80,000-sf facility will house laboratories for medical research and will include an 8,000-sf business incubator for biomedical companies. Completion is expected in early 2013. Northeastern Ohio Medical University is located in Rootstown Township.
