University of Leicester Plans Medical Teaching Building
The University of Leicester is planning to build the $50 million Medical Teaching Building on land purchased from Regent College in Leicester. The facility will provide advanced instructional space for the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology. The sustainably designed project will feature natural light and ventilation, external solar shades, photovoltaic solar panels, a combined heat and power (CHP) system, and a free-cooling labyrinth for air conditioning.
Allosource Breaks Ground on Colorado Expansion
Allosource broke ground in May of 2011 on a expansion and renovation of its facilities in Centennial, Colo. Providing labs, cleanrooms, offices, testing suites, conference rooms, and medical training space, the project will enable Allosource to consolidate its operations in a single location. The facility was designed by Intergroup Architects with The Weitz Company as general contractor. Completion of the new facility is expected in spring of 2012 with existing facility renovations concluding in fall of 2012.
AREVA Plans Uranium Enrichment Facility
AREVA will begin construction in spring of 2012 on the three-story, 650,000-sf Uranium Enrichment Facility near Idaho Falls, Idaho. The plant is expected to be operational in 2015. The project is supported by a $2 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Novant Health Plans Clemmons Medical Center Expansion
Novant Health will begin construction in spring of 2012 on a 35,000-sf expansion of its Clemmons Medical Center. The $23 million project includes a $15 million facility with an emergency department, imaging, outpatient surgery, and medical offices. The cost of road construction, site grading, and the creation of greenway trails is $8 million. Completion is expected in 2013.
Morphotek Builds Biologics Pilot Plant
Morphotek is building an $80 million bioprocessing plant in Exton, Pa. The 60,000-sf facility will house a biologics plant, cGMP cell culture, cleanrooms, production suites, labs, and offices. The building features corridors with transparent walls for maximum visibility of production processes. Precis Engineering is providing MEP and process engineering and commissioning services for the project.
