MaineGeneral Uses Integrated Project Delivery on Augusta Medical Center

MaineGeneral Health is using Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) to build a $312 million medical center in Augusta. The project team includes joint construction managers HP Cummings Construction Company and Robins and Morton and architectural and engineering firms TRO/Jung Brannen and SMRT. Construction will begin on the 192-bed hospital in July of 2011. Completion is expected in mid-2014.

University of Plymouth Breaks Ground on Marine and Maritime Research Building

The University of Plymouth broke ground on a £38 million marine and maritime research building in March of 2011. Housing an advanced wave tank suite and a ship simulator, the facility will support research and development of marine energy and maritime industry technologies. The general contractor for the project is the Leadbitter Group.

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre Plans Building Complex

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre is planning to develop a $25 million horticultural research complex in Vineland Station, Ontario. Designed by Diamond + Schmitt Architects of Toronto, the project will include construction of a 28,000-sf laboratory and renovation of existing facilities. Construction is expected to begin in 2012.

NEA Baptist Health System to Break Ground on Jonesboro Hospital

NEA Baptist Health System will begin construction in May of 2011 on a $400 million health center in Jonesboro, Ark. A 550,000-sf hospital will provide 181 inpatient beds and is expected to reach completion in summer of 2013. An adjacent 213,000-sf medical office building will also be constructed. The project is designed by Earl Swensson Associates of Nashville to provide integrated patient care with each clinic department in the office building connecting to the appropriate hospital floor.

Medtronic Opens Singapore Operations Facility

Medtronic opened its $56 million Medtronic Singapore Operations (MSO) facility in March of 2011. The facility will house manufacturing and production space for advanced cardiac medical devices. MSO will also serve as Medtronic’s Asia headquarters and distribution hub. Medtronic is based in Minneapolis.
