Versiti Blood Research Institute Expands Medical Laboratory

Versiti is engaged in a $79 million expansion of the Versiti Blood Research Institute (VBRI) at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus in Wauwatosa, Wis. Accommodating 125 researchers, the 79,000-sf addition will double research capacity to drive vital discoveries and create breakthrough therapies for patients with conditions such as blood disorders, immune diseases, and cancer. The four-story structure will provide ten laboratory suites, support environments, and core labs that integrate advanced instrumentation.

University of Arkansas Opens Institute for Integrative & Innovative Research

The University of Arkansas opened the Institute for Integrative & Innovative Research (I³R) in August of 2025 on its Fayetteville campus. Designed by HGA and Hufft, the $137.6 million facility will accelerate cross-disciplinary research to foster convergence across the public and private sectors and address pressing problems in domains such as medicine, food systems, and cyber technologies. The 144,000-sf building accommodates five wings.

University of Delaware Opens Science and Innovation Facility

The University of Delaware opened a $180 million science and innovation facility in April of 2025 to catalyze interdisciplinary discovery and expand educational capacity. Built on the former site of McKinley Hall in Newark, the 132,500-sf building houses research and teaching labs with damp and dry functionalities, faculty offices and student workspaces, and conference rooms. Standing three stories above grade, the structure’s basement level accommodates an extension of UD’s Bio-Imaging Center, physics labs, and areas for the fabrication of advanced materials.

CSU San Marcos Plans Integrated Science and Engineering Building

California State University San Marcos is planning to construct the Integrated Science and Engineering (IS&E) building to drive innovation and growth in advanced technology and the life sciences. The 70,000-gsf structure will house the College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics’ growing programs in electrical engineering, computer science, systems engineering, and software engineering. Designed by HGA, the three-story facility will address regional demand for graduates in engineering, computing, and related fields.

Wisconsin Department of Justice Builds Forensic Sciences Lab

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) is creating a new $115.5 million facility for the Milwaukee Crime Lab in partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin to drive discovery, innovation, and education in the forensic sciences. Replacing the existing complex, the 73,188-gsf project will include 64,802 gsf of shared space that will also accommodate operations for the Division of Forensic Sciences. The center will also offer training spaces, offices, and a parking garage.
