Kettering University Breaks Ground on Learning Commons
Kettering University broke ground on the $63 million Learning Commons in January of 2020 in Flint, Mich. Designed by Stantec as a vibrant laboratory for experiential learning, the four-story, 105,000-sf facility will provide a digital library, a 300-seat auditorium, maker spaces, conference rooms, media resource centers, dining amenities, and collaborative project studios where students can work with faculty and industry partners. Illuminated by natural light, the structure will feature flexible, technology-rich gathering areas with writable surfaces.
University of Texas at Dallas Constructs Science Building
The University of Texas at Dallas is constructing the $101 million Science Building to provide leading-edge teaching and research spaces for the departments of physics, mathematics, and chemistry. Designed by Stantec, the 186,000-sf collaborative facility will feature 12 instructional laboratories, a large learning venue with integrated classroom and lab functions, and specialized suites for optics, acoustics, and cryogenics.
Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Opens in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi Health Services Company opened Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in November of 2019 in the United Arab Emirates. Offering world-class facilities for patient care, the 3.2 million-sf hospital houses 499 beds, with the ability to accommodate up to 732 beds as needed. Comprising four interconnected towers, the sustainably designed structure features 36 VIP suites and two presidential suites located on private floors. All inpatient rooms enjoy inspiring views and access to the rooftop gardens.
Yale University Opens Science Building
Yale University opened the $283 million Yale Science Building in October of 2019 in New Haven, Conn. Housing the entire Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology department, the 280,300-sf multidisciplinary facility also accommodates part of the Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry department, as well as supporting faculty from physics and chemistry. The collaborative seven-level structure, which includes two floors below grade, features flexible labs that integrate both research and teaching functions in the same space.
Tufts University Constructs Joyce Cummings Center
Tufts University is building the $90 million Joyce Cummings Center in Medford, Mass. Providing classrooms, auditoria, research labs, and collaboration spaces, the 148,000-gsf facility will accommodate programs in computer science, economics, and mathematics. Offering six stories and a basement level, the building will house the Data Intensive Studies Center, the Fletcher Executive Education and Global Master of Arts program, and the Tufts Gordon Institute.
