University of Wisconsin-River Falls Opens SciTech Innovation Center

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls opened the Science and Technology Innovation Center (SciTech) in January of 2026. Designed by BWBR Architects, the $117 million building features immersive environments for hands-on discovery. The three-story, 134,560-gsf structure offers a maker space, active learning studios, 12 instructional labs, and three wet research labs. This nexus of experiential education also provides 32 undergraduate research spaces, an optics lab, computational labs, offices, and conference rooms.

College of Western Idaho Expands Nampa Campus

The College of Western Idaho opened two new facilities in August of 2025 in Nampa. Fostering collaboration, the 60,000-sf health and science building consolidates growing programs for future registered and practical nurses, surgical technologists, dental assistants, and medical assistants. The three-story structure accommodates specialized skills labs, simulation suites, and three advanced laboratories for work in biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology. Group study venues are complemented by focus and reflection rooms, a student commons, and a café.

Wesleyan University Constructs Science Building

Wesleyan University is constructing a $255 million science building to consolidate two existing facilities and anchor a transformational life sciences precinct in Middletown, Conn. Designed by Payette, the 195,000-gsf structure will house the departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.  The four-story development will feature 39 research and support labs, nine teaching labs, seven classrooms, and a vivarium.

Morgan State University broke ground in May of 2025 on the $337 million Science Center in Baltimore. Designed by Moody Nolan, CannonDesign, and K. Dixon Architecture, the 246,435-gsf building will become the centerpiece of scientific research and instruction on campus. This new home for the School of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences will provide 135,539 asf of leading-edge space for interactive learning, innovation, and discovery.

Old Dominion University Breaks Ground on Biological Sciences Building

Old Dominion University broke ground in April of 2025 on the Biological Sciences Building in Norfolk, Va. Representing the largest capital construction project in the institution's history, the $184 million development will enable students and faculty to explore a wide range of biomedical and ecological fields. Ballinger and VMDO Architects designed the 162,586-sf structure, which will provide flexible research labs for up to 30 investigators, teaching labs, core facilities, classrooms, and a 120-seat lecture hall.

Pennsylvania Western University is constructing a 63,500-sf science building to advance education and research in the natural sciences. Located on the PennWest California campus, the $39 million facility was designed by DRAW Collective to foster experiential learning and put science on display. Driving interdisciplinary collaboration, the three-story structure will house 17 labs and 19 science support areas tailored for disciplines including biology, physics, chemistry, microbiology, ecology, and anatomy and physiology.

USDA's New Research Center Will Advance Innovation in Agriculture

Supporting K-12 educational partnerships, the public-facing project will foster a greater understanding of the natural and cultural history of the Southern Appalachian region.

Montgomery College opened the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Math and Science Building in September of 2024 in Takoma Park, Md. The $104 million facility serves as a vibrant campus centerpiece that will drive excellence in STEM education. Featuring 20 advanced laboratories, the three-story, 108,000-sf structure includes a a planetarium, a cybersecurity center, and a greenhouse. Eight flexible classrooms can accommodate a range of pedagogies, complemented by versatile function spaces and an expansive atrium.
